2012 Primary Election Candidate Information

All forms are found on the Secretary of State’s (SOS) election website at www.oregonvotes.org.  The only forms that are submitted locally are the candidate filing forms for county offices. All campaign finance (ORESTAR) and voters’ pamphlet (VP) filings are done at the SOS in Salem.
CANDIDATES MANUAL

1)  To file for candidacy for a county office (Commissioner):

• To file as a minor political party candidate for the office of commissioner, check with the minor party at the state level.  You must be nominated by that party between May 30 and August 28, 2012. Minor Political Party Candidate Nomination Manual.

• To file as a nonaffiliated candidate for the office of commissioner:
  • May 30 is the first day to file and August 28 is the last day to file as a nonaffiliated candidate for a partisan office for the 2012 General Election.
  • Candidate must be registered as a nonaffiliated voter by March 1, 2012 (minimum of 180 days prior to the filing date)
  • Complete the following forms:
    • SEL 114 (Individual Electors Candidate Filing)
    • SEL 122 (Chief Sponsor Petition for Nonaffiliated Nomination Signature Sheet)
      • Must be approved in writing by County Clerk before circulating
      • 294 valid signatures required

2)  Campaign Finance

The Campaign Finance Manual, including forms, can be found on the SOS website.  Contact the SOS for any questions you may have regarding your campaign finance reporting.

 

Qualifications

• Sheriff – Resident of county one year prior to election; 21 years or older; certification by Department of Public Safety Standards & Training

• Assessor – Resident of county one year prior to election; 18 years or older; registered appraiser and certification by Department of Revenue

• Commissioner – Resident of county one year prior to election; 18 years or older

• Surveyor – Registered professional land surveyor

• Treasurer – Resident of county one year prior to election; 18 years or older
