The general election shall be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of each even-numbered year.  At the general election officers of the state and subdivisions of the state (including cities), members of Congress and electors of President and Vice President of the United States are to be elected.

A special election shall not be held on any date (except as noted in ORS 255.345) other than:

  1. The second Tuesday in March;
  2. The third Tuesday in May;
  3. The third Tuesday in September; or
  4. The first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

The May and November elections consist of the Primary and General Elections on even-numbered years.  Special elections are only administered when needed, but the Primary and General elections always occur on even-numbered years.
